Game Jam

A game jam is an event where people come together to develop a game within a short period of time (usually a weekend, but there are also shorter and longer jams) under specific conditions. The first known game jam was the 0th Indie Game Jam on March 14, 2002, where 14 people developed 12 experimental games within four days (History).

Since then, a number of game jams have emerged, e.g. the Global Game Jam, which take place worldwide.

A game jam is supposed to be like a music jam session, which means that the focus of the jam is to get together, have fun developing games and learn new things without the pressure of having to deliver results of a certain quality. As we believe that applying things in a playful environment is an important part of learning, we have decided to host our own Game Jam in 2023 and repeat this event annually. Below you will find the impressions of the last Game Jams.

FaceLenses

FaceLenses is being developed by students in our Visual Computing department. With FaceLenses, you can take photos of your friends, with a selected effect for distorting the image being displayed live in the preview. Selfies are also possible if a front camera is available. The effects can be selected via a menu and can be varied using different parameters.
It is also possible to edit and save photos afterwards. The photo taken (or photos from a gallery view) can be sent via available smartphone functions.
