Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Kolja Kühnlenz is professor of automation and robotics at Coburg University, Germany, since 2014 and research professor since 2016. He received his PhD in 2007 and his habilitation degree in 2013 from TU Munich, Germany. He is also an adjunct teaching professor at TU Munich, Germany, since 2013. Before, he was visiting professor and interim chair of sensor systems at University of Passau, Germany, from 2013 to 2014 and department head at the Bavarian State office of Metrology from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Kühnlenz was senior researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Automatic Control Engineering (LSR), TU Munich, from 2007 to 2012. He was also Carl von Linde Junior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, Munich, from 2009 to 2012 and Independent Junior Research Group Leader at DFG cluster of excellence „Cognition for Technical Systems - CoTeSys“ from 2007 to 2012. From 2003 to 2007 he was research and teaching assistant and doctoral candidate at the Institute of Automatic Control Engineering, TU Munich, Germany.

He held several leading positions in research and graduate centers such as member of the extended board of DFG cluster of excellence CoTeSys, member of the executive board of Bernstein Center of Computational Neuroscience and chairman of the DFG cluster of excellence CoTeSys Graduate Center, Munich, Germany. He organized various IEEE events such as 2008 IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN) and 2012 IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Robotics and its Social Impacts (ARSO) as program chair. He is associate editor and editorial board member of International Journal of Social Robotics, Springer, and served as associate editor in IEEE RAS CEB and IEEE ICRB, as Guest Editor at RSJ Advanced Robotics and as program committee member of various conferences such as e.g. IEEE RO-MAN, IEEE ICARCV, IEEE AIM, IEEE CIRA, IEEE HSI, ICSR, AISB, ICINCO.

Dr. Kühnlenz‘ research interests are visually guided robots and human-robot interaction. Among his contributions are approaches to biomimetic integrated top-down/bottom-up visual attention, high-speed visual servoing and social psychological approaches to dynamic human-robot closed loop systems. He published over 90 papers in international peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
